Welcome to The Thomas Harley Charity

Thomas Harley's Charity

The Charity was founded in 1670 with a vision of education and care. Originally established as a school and almshouse for the widows of clergy, it reflected Thomas Harley’s deep commitment to supporting the church community and providing stability for those in need.

Over the centuries, the charity has adapted to changing times. The school closed in 1901, and the almshouses were eventually sold during the 20th century. The proceeds were carefully invested, ensuring that Thomas Harley’s original legacy could continue in new and meaningful ways.

Today, the charity supports dependents of clergy within the Diocese of Leicester and helps young people to access higher education as well as providing support to local schools. By offering grants and assistance, Thomas Harley’s Charity remains true to its founding purpose: to create opportunity, provide care, and strengthen the community for generations to come.
